Mountain Leader Summer Training

Mountain Leader Summer Training

About the Mountain Leader (Summer) Award

Administered by Mountain Training England, the Mountain Leader (Summer) Award is intended for those who wish to lead groups around the mountains of the UK. The mountains of the UK are remote, technical and exposed to harsh and unpredictable weather. This makes them a hazardous place for novice walkers. The Mountain Leader Award is designed to help responsible leaders who wish to operate in mountainous terrain in summer conditions. Mountain Leader Training courses develop your group management skills, the ability to navigate in all conditions, the ability to deal with mountain hazards (including steep ground) and increase your awareness of environmental issues. There is an expedition element to the scheme.

Pre-Training Requirements

  • be at least 18 years old.
  • have at least a year’s worth of experience of hill walking
  • have an interest in leading groups in the hills, or developing personal skills
  • have created an account with Mountain Training
